Dr Sharon Laura is a caring and experienced Breast, Oncoplastic Breast and Thyroid / Parathyroid Surgeon, as well as General Surgeon. She has been a valued specialist on the Central Coast since 2006 and has cared for more than two thousand breast cancer patients.

Dr Laura has years of experience managing benign and malignant breast conditions. Dr Laura has undergone extensive surgical training over many years. She has a Bachelor of Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. She is a member of Breast SurgANZ, ANZ Breast Cancer Trials Group, General Surgeons Australia, the Australian Medical Association and Australasian Society of Breast Disease. Specialty training was completed in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and Breast Reconstruction.

Dr Laura offers implant reconstruction after mastectomy and uses oncoplastic techniques to achieve the best possible results for her breast cancer patients after breast conserving surgery. Dr Laura is passionate about supporting women through their cancer journey and helping them through this difficult time. She understands the emotional impact this has on a patient and their family and is here to help in any way that she can. She is a full registered member of Breast SurgANZ, presenting every breast and thyroid cancer patient at a multi-disciplinary meeting. This ensures patients receive the best possible care, with second opinions from a group of cancer experts and opportunities to be part of the latest trials.

Dr Laura works with a kind and skilled team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to support breast cancer patients before, during and after their treatment. Dr Laura provides support and information to help her patients with treatment decisions. Cancer treatment is tailored to each individual patient.

Dr Laura’s other specialty areas include:

• Surgery for ruptured breast implants
• Risk-reducing surgery or surveillance for high-risk breast patients with gene mutations
• Thyroid surgery for benign and malignant conditions
• Minimally invasive parathyroid surgery and laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstones.

Dr Laura is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University, involved in teaching and research projects.

Dr Laura cares for both private and public patients, with regular lists at Gosford Private Hospital and Gosford Public Hospital. She also works at Breast Screen Australia.

Any newly diagnosed cancer patient will be offered a priority appointment.
