Dr Matthew Chan is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
He graduated with Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Adelaide University and completed his Advanced Training in Medical Oncology at the Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre, Westmead Hospital. Dr Chan was appointed in 2014 as Staff Specialist in Medical Oncology with the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) Gosford and Wyong Hospitals. He is a Conjoint Lecturer and Member of The Academy of Clinical Educators (ACE) with the University of Newcastle.
Dr Chan participates in the lung cancer, genito-urinary cancer, breast cancer and gastrointestinal cancer multi-disciplinary meetings at Gosford Public Hospital. He consults at the Central Coast Cancer Centre, Gosford Hospital and the Gosford Private Consulting Suites with admitting rights to both Gosford Public and Gosford Private Hospitals.
Dr Chan has a strong interest in Clinical Research having completed Clinical Trial Fellowships in Melanoma and Genitourinary Cancers, at Westmead Hospital. This includes conducting phase 1, 2 and 3 clinical trials of molecularly targeted therapies as well as the ground-breaking immune checkpoint therapies (CTLA-4 inhibitors, PD-1 inhibitors). This was followed by an appointment with the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, University of Sydney, where he was the Research Fellow for the Australasian Lung Cancer Trials Group (ALTG) and the Australasian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG). During this period, he completed a Masters of Clinical Trials Research (MClinT(R)) at the University of Sydney.
Dr Chan is currently involved as a site Principal and Co-Investigator at Gosford Public Hospital for a number of International, multicentre, clinical trials. He is widely published, with articles covering research into melanoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, gastric and genito-urinary cancer. He also actively contributes to Peer Review of manuscripts for prestigious journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Oncology, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, Clinical and Experimental Immunology, Immunotherapy, Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, Expert Opinion on Orphan Drugs, and BMJ Case Reports.
