Dr Indu Gunawardena is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr Gunawardena has extensive training and experience at leading hospitals in Australia and overseas. She graduated from the University of Sydney Medical School completing her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2001 and her internship at Westmead Hospital.

Having completed General Otolaryngology training in New Zealand she then undertook further subspecialist fellowship training in Rhinology, Endoscopic skull base surgery, Head and Neck Surgery and Sleep Apnea Surgery at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide. She has also completed visiting fellowships at Toronto General Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital in Canada where she specialised in Head and Neck Oncology and at the Harborview Medical Centre, Seattle, USA where she specialised in Sleep Apnea surgery.

Dr Gunawardena sees paediatric and adult patients, with special interests in paediatric and adult Sleep Apnea, Snoring, Rhinology, Allergy, Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Head and Neck Oncology. 

Dr Gunawardena prides herself on compassionate, patientcentred care and is passionate about delivering high quality ENT specialist services to the Central Coast community.

Dr Gunawardena has a strong interest in research areas including Head and Neck Oncology, Rhinology and Sleep Apnea surgery. She has presented and published her own research both nationally and internationally and strives to apply evidence based medicine to her clinical practice. She is the proud recipient of several research grants and awards for basic science and clinical research in Otolaryngology.
