Gosford Heart Centre Celebrates 10 Years of Healing Hearts
The team at Gosford Heart Centre are thrilled to celebrate their 10 year anniversary, healing over 21,000 hearts and providing our Central Coast region with complex cardiac and cardiothoracic care.
The Gosford Heart Centre will this week celebrate 10 years of providing the Central Coast with access to complex, state-of-the-art cardiac and cardiothoracic care which has seen them mend more than 21,000 hearts since it first opened its doors.
Over the years, Gosford Heart Centre, which is located within Gosford Private Hospital, has become a hub of innovation for the region, offering diagnostic and interventional cardiac care and treatment in addition to emergency care and emergency response.
According to Matt Kelly, Head of Regional Operations – North, The Gosford Heart Centre has played a key role in opening up access to cutting edge cardiac care for the Central Coast.
“The growth and evolution of this service since its opening demonstrates our Hospital’s commitment to ensuring the Central Coast community can access and experience state of the art technology, best practice and positive patient outcomes,” Mr Kelly said.
The 10 year anniversary is a significant milestone for the unit according to Gosford Heart Centre Director, Interventional Cardiologist Dr Brendan Gunalingam.
Dr Gunalingam said he was particularly proud to celebrate this milestone with staff, doctors and patients like Leigh, who was one of the first patients for the Heart Centre.
“We’ve come a long way in the last 10 years, starting with one Cath lab and expanding to two through to the present where the Gosford Heart Centre is now leading the region in undertaking standard and complex coronary interventional and structural procedures,” Dr Gunalingam said.
“In the last ten years we’ve seen the introduction of procedures involving watchman implants and micra pacemakers, which are the smallest in the world, further cementing our position as the leading cardiology and cardiothoracic hospital on the Central Coast”
“Patients don’t need to leave the coast to access revolutionary and high-quality cardiac care, delivered through technology, industry-leading procedures and supportive on-site rehabilitation care.”
Frequent Gosford Private Hospital surgical patient and Cooranbong local, Leigh, 76, said he jumped at the chance to be one of the first patients for the Gosford Heart Centre when it first opened.
“I had coronary angiography and then stenting performed when the centre first opened under the care of my Cardiologist, Dr Brendan Gunalingam, and I haven’t looked back since,” Leigh said.
“The convenience of being able to access quality care without leaving the Coast is just something you can’t ignore.”
“It’s been great to have a front row seat to something like this and since my first procedure, I’ve had a shoulder and knee replacement surgery at Gosford Private under another specialist.”
“The fact I could get my other surgeries here too is just another reason why I choose Gosford Private Hospital and I can’t wait to see how they continue to help and care for patients over the next 10 years within the Gosford Heart Centre.”
