$32m Gosford Private Hospital re-development reaches finish line

It's official, our $32m re-development is complete including a brand new purpose built robotic operating theatre and dedicated cardiothoracic theatre.

The Gosford Private Hospital team achieved a major milestone this week, officially commissioning the final stage of the $32m re-development, which includes a dedicated cardiothoracic theatre and a new, fit-for-purpose robotic operating theatre featuring the $3.5m da Vinci Xi surgical robot.

The 18-month project, which was completed by Red Eye Constructions has seen the installation of a brand new Day Surgery unit and step down lounge, a welcoming 12 bed maternity ward, an 18 bed recovery bay and a 23 bed dedicated surgical ward.

This milestone further cements Gosford Private Hospital’s position as the premier private hospital on the Central Coast according to Chief Executive Officer of Gosford Private Hospital and Healthe Care Australia Regional Manager Matt Kelly.

“The culmination of this $32m development heralds a new era in patient care on the Coast, reinforcing our hospital as a facility which is dedicated to pioneering innovation and delivering exceptional patient care,” Mr Kelly said.

“It is incredibly important that even during challenging times, we continue to innovate, push barriers and embrace technological advancements where possible.

“Over the last 41 years Gosford Private Hospital has grown alongside the community in the scope of services and opportunities we provide to the region.

“Our new theatres and the specially designed surgical ward meets the growing demand from our specialists and patients for access to premier facilities, where innovation and surgical advancements can be achieved.

“Our Central Coast community deserves world class health care and the completion of this re-development is just further proof of that residents need not travel to Sydney to experience industry leading, complex surgical procedures.”

While the development has officially concluded on site, growth is still very much on the cards at the Gosford Private Hospital with the surgical robotics program anticipated to expand in coming months.

Last month the first da Vinci Xi by Intuitive robotic case was conducted at Gosford Private Hospital in the field of Urology and those cases are set to continue, with 10 highly trained and skilled specialists set to be among the first to conduct surgeries with new technology.

Minimally invasive, innovative robotic surgical procedures will soon be available in the specialties of General Surgery, Colorectal, Cardiothoracic and Gynaecology as specialists complete their technical training.

According to Mark, 63, from Bateau Bay who was the first patient to experience the da Vinci Xi at Gosford Private Hospital, he was pleased with the outcome and to be going home just a day after surgery.

“I am so grateful that Gosford Private Hospital has invested in this technology for patients so that members of our Central Coast Community can benefit from robotic-assisted surgery,” He said.

“It’s incredible to be the first patient at the hospital to undergo this new, cutting edge surgery and I’m even more thrilled that the fast recovery means I can go home less than 24 hours after surgery.

“No one ever wants to be in hospital or to experience surgery, but if you need to experience it, robotic-assisted surgery is definitely the way to go and I really do hope it helps many more people on the coast.”

Gosford Private Hospital’s dedication to meeting the growing demand in the region is further reflected in the investment it has made in terms of employment said Mr Kelly.

“The health sector is the largest employer on the Central Coast and our Hospital employs more than 600 staff and I’m pleased to share that this development has fueled a further 40 new health care job opportunities at our hospital.

“We are looking forward to contributing to the growth of talent in the region and to the services the community can access, with a range of recruitment opportunities currently available within the Robotics program.”
