Dr. Jason Mak is the Medical Director of Gaiacology and a specialist in gynaecology surgery and sonology.
A proud Coastie with over 25 years of experience in healthcare across Australia and internationally. He provides expert, comprehensive care for a wide range of gynaecological conditions, with a special interest in endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.
Dr. Mak has advanced sub-specialization in gynaecology surgery and ultrasound following his fellowship training. This prestigious fellowship was under the mentorship of Prof. Alan Lam and Prof. George Condous, both internationally recognized pioneers in their fields. Jason continues to work within George’s research network producing and presenting novel research on the international stage. He decided not to practice obstetrics. This allows him to focus all his energy, learning and skill maintenance on gynaecology, without interruption. His PhD is titled “Professionalization and subspecialisation of endometriosis and complex benign gynaecology”. Jason’s fellowship was the culmination of three university degrees and 25 years in healthcare, starting with his early career as a registered nurse in 1999. His mum Judy was also an RN and midwife, and during his childhood he often hung out with her at a popular medical centre in Terrigal, where she was well known.
He has a wide variety of experience having worked at 8 metropolitan Sydney Hospitals and clinics, 18 in regional and remote NSW including aboriginal health services in Wilcannia, White Cliffs, the Royal flying Doctors in Broken Hill, further work in Tasmania and Western Australia, as well as a gap year in the United Kingdom, and a summer elective in Papua New Guinea. He is the medical director of a Christian faith-based NGO preventing maternal and neonatal mortality in West Africa, https://safebirthingworldwide.org/ He spends his down time with his wife Laura and kids Sidney, Leila and Austin. He coaches his daughters football team, does water safety for nippers and annoys them with terrible dad jokes.
