2020 International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife: Nurse of the Year - Eve Sinda

Our Gosford Private Hospital - Nurse of the Year, Eve Sinda, shares why she decided on a career in nursing.

Your name:

Eve Sinda

Your role:

Registered Nurse - Cardiac Catheterisation Lab

How many years have you been a nurse?

12 years working as a nurse

What first got you involved in nursing?

It was my mum that got me into nursing. After High School, I didn't really know what course to take up in university. Since I was young, my mum always wanted me to become a nurse, so I said to myself, I'll do it for my parents and once I finish I'm going to do what I really wanted to do (though I didn't really know exactly).

My second year into nursing, my grandmother died. I was there when they resuscitated her, and I can still remember it vividly to this day. I guess I felt helpless then, I couldn't do anything. I just remember thinking back then 'I'm going to be a good nurse some day, for her'.

Then I started working, that's when I learned to love it. I remembered a patient's mum came up to me one day thanking me for looking after her son. I felt really happy that I made her happy. It was very fulfilling. Finally, when I went abroad, I realised nursing is a vocation, it's a calling. Not everyone can be a nurse, it's a gift from God.

Which of our 5 Values best describes you and why?

From our 5 Values, I think Positive Energy best describes me. I've always been a positive person - I try to look at the positive side of things. I do think that my positive energy enables me to continuously improve myself personally and professionally for best practice, respect everyone around me, and give the highest quality of care our patients deserve, which in turn, enables them to have the best experience while in hospital.

What do you enjoy most about working at Gosford Private?

There are a lot of things I enjoy about working at Gosford Private. The fact that I am able to work in a field that I love, that is Cardiac, being empowered, being appreciated and well compensated are great. But most of all, being able to work with such an amazing group of people. Being away from family, Gosford Private has become my home away from home.
